Conversion Notes

1. Width of army is based on matching Greek width with left/right 2-deep and centre single depth => 24 elements wide (and double depth so either BwX/O, BwO/O or SpI.

Assume the rest of the numbers are made up with Hd => 8 elements of Hd @ 1000 men each.

2. Have made the Persian CnC Inert to make it difficult for them to re-deploy since they just awaited the Greeks assault.

3. I have ignored the 5k Persian cavalry mentioned in the battle-plan because I assume that these are away on ships bound for Athens.

Camp

4 x Irr Bge(O) baggage

ME 4

Disheartened: 2

Broken: 2

Army Total ME: 57 / Broken 28

Conversion Notes

1. The army list allows 0-8 Plataian allies so this seems too many according to Warry's numbers. Hence it is probably representing the contingent at half normal scale (1 element =100-125 men). Instead of doing this I have scaled the battle at normal scale and allowed the Plataians to command Athenian hoplites as well so that the Athenian army can be represented in 3 commands. An alternative would be to have a micro Plataian command and the additional Athenian hoplites on that flank be treated as a separate, small command. The advantage of 3 commands is that it allows the centre to be slightly weaker and hence more attractive for the Persians to break first...as happened historically.

Table Setup/Terrain

The narrowness of the plain is one of the reasons the Athenians picked it and they have a fighting frontage of 24 elements = 96cm (1920 paces) at 15mm scale which accords pretty well with the diagram above. Hence I suggest that a normal 15mm board (6x4/1.8mx1.2m) is used with the sea narrowing it to (96+40) = 136cm on the Greeks's right flank. Giving them one open flank as per the normal deployment rules. The river depicted by Warry (above) can be in front of the Persian camp and the Greeks could receive a gentle hill in their deployment area...but perhaps not quite wide enough to fit all of their troops.
