Avar vs Central Asian Turks

Page history last edited by PBworks 15 years, 5 months ago

Played 400pt game last night using my Avars vs mates (Stephen

brittain just for a change) Central Asian Turks

My Avars

Cic with 10 rCvS

SG with 9 rCvS

SG with 8 rLhS

SG with 4 rLhS

Feigned Flight strategm

Turks

Cic was Su Lu (brill Gen) not sure of cmd makeups but as with mine an

all mounted array. Essentially 2 wings of iLhS with couple of iCvO

A centre with couple of iCvS more iLhS and iCvO. A baggage Cmd

(delayed) of iBgF and a 4th fughting Cmd of Allied Sogdians with 3-4

iKnF and couple of iLhF (check out photos folder to see both armies

arrayed just prior to contact-note Sogdians not yet arrived on Flank

Attack)

Terrain saw Turks pick 2 WH which both ended up on my side with a 1FE

WH exactly mid-table (Stephen trying to thwart my Regular manouvre

advantage) a 1 FE WH on my right flank and couple of 1FE GHs mid-

table.

I deployed 1st to right of the WH with small Lh cmd on my right Cic

to its left SG Cv cmd next and the larger Lh cmd on left huuging the

WH. Turks deployed correspondingly opposite and at this stage I

realised he had an out-flanking Cmd which I suspected was to arrive

on my right.

Initial moves say my Cic advance onto the large GH with Lh supporting

his right. My other Cv Cmd also advanced with a 3 element contingent

heading to my left by march moves to hopefully counter the flank

march. My Lh on left where in two long colums and moved fowards and

expanded towards Turk right.

Turks then advanced but stayed short of my line of Cv on the GH only

on my right did his larger Lh Cmd attack my small Lh Cmd. I lost 1 Lh

but managed to repel others despite overlaps.

On my I hurled a line of 12 CvS into the Turk lines

and............nothing !! I killed 1 Lh and recoiled a couple but

lost 1 Lh and 1 CvS. On my left my Lh deployed to face enemy Lh and

CvO.

On Turk turn the Flank Attack was announced (ie declared brill

stroke) on requisite dice throw.

Turks managed to achieve a couple of overlaps against my line of Cv

and more worryingly a couple of flank contacts.

But the dice Gods were extremely unkind to the Turks (no tears shed

by yours truly) as Stephen managed to roll several ones on key

combats seeing him lose several elements and me none :-)

Even my out numbered Lh on right killed enemy or recoiled them

(nastily for Turks a couple into 'unable to recoil' posistions)

Subsequently I managed several overlaps alone my line of Cv and

combined with more poor dice rolls from Turks (even less tears shed)

I killed several more elements for no loss in fact breaking Su Lu's

cmd and potentially disheartening the Turk left flank Cmd.

On my left my Lh engaged but were pushed back by CvO but for no loss.

On my right my Lh (whose CvS Gen had entered the fray) caused more

losses to Turk left indeed breaking this Cmd and therefore ending the

game !! :-)

A quick decisive victory for the Avars and despite short duration of

game one we as usual both enjoyed.
